Skin mistakes we should all avoid
Friday, 09 July 2010 14:57

There are many mistakes that cause harm to our skin without us even knowing. The numbers are scary with cases of melanoma the deadliest form of skin cancer among young women that have doubled in the past five decades. Here we examine the simple mistakes we make and learn how to correct them and learn simple tricks that will keep our skin glowing and gorgeous. Using moisturizers as a sun-screen is a big no-no. Don’t rely on your SPF foundation or moisturizer to keep your skin protected. While moisturizer is a must for skin hydration, if you are going to be outside for more than 15 minutes apply facial sunscreen. Checking your family’s cancer history record is something that many of us often forget to keep in mind. There are facts behind the degree of cancers in your family that you may be at risk of. There is also a strong heredity predisposition to melanoma behavior like the entire family balking at using sunscreen can play a role, but it also boils down to genetics. In addition to checking your family’s cancer history, checking your sun screens expiration date is crucial in assuring you are actually being protected from the sun. Many do not know that there is an expiration date for sunscreen. There is also the chance that you are not using the correct sunscreen and that is any with broad spectrum/UVA protection that will offer you protection from UV rays. And since sunscreen is a chemical barrier, it comes off easily, so it needs to be reapplied every few hours.

USE YOUR RAIN BARREL - Aveda's July Green Tip of the month
Thursday, 01 July 2010 00:00
During the dry months, 40% of the average household's water consumption goes to Outdoor watering. Rather than using precious drinking water, gather rainfall in a rain barrel connected to the gutter system and use it to keep the lawn and garden green. Just an inch of rainfall on a 1,000 square foot roof will accumulate over 600 gallons of fresh water!

Aveda is the Art and Science of Pure Flower and Plant Essences™. All Aveda products contain 95% naturally derived ingredients and use 100% post consumer recycled packaging. Along with Aveda, Josephine’s is committed to providing and maintaining a better world to live in. Whether we are hosting our annual “Pretty in Pink” gala for breast cancer, or raising money towards clean water for earth month, Josephine’s is always looking to help those around us. Every April since 2006, over $15,000 has been raised for earth month to help provide clean water to those in need. Everything from the caps on our shampoo bottles, to the hair swept up from our floors is being recycled and used to provide a cleaner and healthier world.

If you are interested in finding a peaceful place to unwind, relax, and build friendships, make Josephine’s your new home away from home.

Protecting your hair this summer just got easier
Monday, 07 June 2010 00:00

It is proven that fine hair tends to be oily and weak so it needs both strong cleansers and lightweight conditioner. It has 50% less protein than thicker hair. It is especially important in the summer time to keep your hair protected against the summer sun no matter if it is fine or thick.

Look for styling products with a built in sun protection factor like Aveda’s Sun care Hair, a color safe formula that gently and effectively removes, chlorine, salt, and product build up while helping to maintain moisture balance. Bear in mind that products that contain alcohol can dry your hair out even faster in the sun, so unless your hair needs to be styled, avoid products containing alcohol, or any other substance that would typically dry out hair. Also be aware that the SPF will wash out if you go swimming or sweat the same rules that apply to sunscreen on your face apply here. Having your hair blocked from the sun is another way to protect it, try braiding your hair so that all of the hair is not exposed to the sun to be damaged or just simply wear a hat. Remember that you don't want the hair closest to your scalp the healthiest hair on your head to get damaged.
These tips can help protect your hair from damage this summer and help keep your locks full.

Caring for dry skin
Wednesday, 02 June 2010 00:00
Many people suffer from dry skin; if you are one of them you are not alone. Dry skin is very common and has many symptoms including flakiness, itch, redness, and ashiness. Follow these simple rules and you will be on your way to cure, prevent and relieve dry rough skin and enjoy smooth, soft touchable, glowing healthy skin. Firstly make sure you are getting the proper amount of rest each night this is not the first time we have mentioned this it is also important to get enough rest to fight acne. The three minute moisture rule is also apparent, apply moisturizer to your face while it is still damp after washing. Of course make sure that you do not rub your skin when drying it off, instead simply pat your skin dry with a soft towel. To assure that your skin is healthy and smooth be sure to follow these steps and moisturize often with Aveda's Botanical Kinetics hydrating moisturizer. The entire line is proven to decrease the amount of dry skin that is produced with frequent usage.
